Durabrand Venturer Portable DVD Player

Monday July 5, 2004
Durabrand has introduced a portable DVD player with a twist; it comes with two screens. What's the point? The dual screen feature allows two persons sitting a short distance away to watch the same video, or one person to watch a DVD while another person can watch a camcorder video. Check out all the interesting details in the report from Gadget Madness.

DURABRAND PRODUCTS DO NOT WORK BEYOND 90 DAYS. TAKE MY ADVICE, BUY A BETTER PRODUCT. DONT BURN YOURSELVES WITH THESE PRODUCTS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE WHO WRITE HERE THAT THEY ARE GOOD. TRUST ME, I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE THE 93RD DAY AND WALMART WILL NOT REPLACE OR REFUND AS THEY HAVE A 90 DAY POLICY. ITS WALMART’S BRAND! AND THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO GIVE WARRANTY OVER 90DAYS. WHY LISTEN TO ALL THESE JOKERS ABOVE WHEN THE MANUFACTURER THEMSELVES ARE NOT CONFIDENT OF GIVING A WARRANTY OVER 90DAYS??? DONT BELIEVE ME? GO AHEAD, SUIT YOURSELVES AND EXPERIENCE IT YOURSELF.

(14) Carolyn says:

I have to agree with all of the previous reviewers…we bought this without doing the resaarch first. What a mistake! It worked for 3 weeks, until one screen, then the second screen went black. The picture never came back again. When I tried to return it to Walmart, they refused to issue a refund because it was over 14 days. I didn’t want to exchange it for a new one, or be bothered getting new one under the warranty. DON’T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

(15) Kevin Tennant says:

LISTEN TO REDIFFER, I bought two of their DVD portable players and both of them crapped out on me. My emails don’t get answered and you’ll be on there support line until the end of time. Their products suck!!
This is the best money scam I have ever seen and all done under a coporate blanket, I’m in the wrong business!

(16) Neal Q says:

I have to agree with all of you. My wife bought the dual screen for our kids, they worked fine for a while then the main player would not recognize the DVDs ( even brand new ones). She bought it at Walmart, and yes after 90 days it was too bad, so sad. I even called an electronics repair place to see if I could get it fixed. They told me the it was not worth the money to repair it, that they were pieces of CRAP!! Walmart already had our money and were not helpful at all with any sort of help or advice.

(19) Stacey says:

We have a durabrand portable dvd for our son. After 90 days, we noticed the dvd wouldn’t keep a charge. We thought it was the cord. we bought a new one but found out it was the plug in port. It can not be fixed, and the company will not honor it. We will not buy another one. It is ridiculus that you spend all this money on products companies won’t stand behind.

I got one this past christmas and around the third week of using it, it would freeze for a couple of seconds and it just kept getting worse and worse until the entire screen would turn purple. Then you would have to completely restart the movie. Now, only half of the screen works, the rest is multulered in one part and black on the other part. DON”T BUY

I BOUGHT A DURABRAND PORTABLE DVD FROM WALMART. AFTER TWO MONTHS THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. NO ONE SELLS THE BATTERY PACK, INCLUDING WALMART WHERE I BOUGHT THE DVD. I HAVE SENT SEVERAL EMAILS WITH NO RESPONSE. I’M VERY DISAPPOINTED.

After lots of looking around, I purchased a DURABRAND DUAL SCREEN PORTABLE DVD PLAYER from Walmart. This was in February of 2008 and by the summer it stopped working.
How disappointing, who can afford to spend $169 and have it stop working in 6 months!!
GARBAGE, PURE GARBAGE!! I agree, now I see how Walmart got so rich!!
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

(28) Sherry says:

I bought my Venturer Dual DVD player for my 2 children in October of 2007. The piece of junk hasn’t worked for almost that long. I have had to wiggle wires and everything trying to keep it working. The first jar of my van, they go out again. Don’t recommend at all. I havent’ even been able to find a 1800# to call them.

(29) Rachel says:

I am really surprised at these comments. Ours was stolen from the car 2 days ago. I was online now looking for another one just like it. I bought one from Wal-Mart online about 5 years ago and NEVER had any problem with it until about 2 weeks ago. I had a problem with one of the cords to one of the monitors but it was working fine when the crackhead stole it. We never used the battery pack but kept it plugged into the car plug all the time.

(30) tara says:

I bought the durabrand portable dvd player with 2 screens, game controll, and car kit. It hasn’t worked since the second time. It doesn’t read disks and if it does it skips so bad you can’t watch it. its terrible. I am very disappointed.

(31) gail says:

The ventura DVD player was a Christmas gift for my son. It arrived yesterday, I took it out of the box to try it out. The DVDs played blurry, the sound was either LOUD or silent, the screen flopped over. I took it back to Wal-mart for credit on a better brand.
PLEASE, Don’t waste your money

I have a durabrand model pdv-702. It’s about 2 years old and works well. I need now to find the audio and video cables to connect it to our larger TV. they should have come with the player but did not. I cannot seem to find them anywhere. Any advice ?

(33) Brad says:

I have one and it work pretty good in the car. We made the mistake of trying to use it indoors with the supplied 110v adapter. As soon as we plugged it in the player began to smoke and wires melt…Unit was about 3 months old… Will not buy another!

(34) Kelly says:

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!! This is our second time purchasing the Venturer 8″ Dual Screen Mobile DVD System from Walmart in a matter of 2 weeks!! The first one played for all of 30 mins and the player got stuck in fast forward mode. Luckily we purchased the warranty and kept the receipt and box, so i returned to Walmart and exchanged it for another Venturer 8″ Dual Screen DVD Player in hopes that this one wasn’t going to be defective. Got it home, installed it and it lasted a couple of hours and then it FROZE!!!! I am returning the product back to Walmart and i am praying i can just get my money back and go somewhere else to purchase a different brand. I have also emailed the Venturer Company. Hopefully i will get a response.

I purchased a Ventura 7inch portable dvd player in February 2009 and it started skipping almost immediately. Now, it won’t play at all. I purchased mine at ABC Warehouse. I’ll see tomorrow if I can return it and will not purchase this brand again.

I bought a durabrand dual dvd player from Walmart for my kids for Christmas 2008…it stopped working right after vacation in June 2008…of course they stopped selling them and there’s no way of buying the parts!!! Is there anything I can do with this piece of junk!!! I paid about $150 for it!!! It’s JUNK!

May 5, 2009 at 2:59 pm
(39) Tonya says:

Junk doesnt begin to describe what a piece of crap this company is.I have bought my son 2 of these sice Feb 2009. Both have had issues with the screens. Is there anywhere other than Wal-mart to return these and get your money back. I paid $179.00

May 17, 2009 at 6:09 pm
(40) Maryann says:

i am not kidding you when I say this. I originally purchased these in October of 07′ they only last less than 3 months. I have exchanged these 9 times in the past 19 months. Walmart had just told me that this would be the last time I was able to exchange these. They told me that they must have been abused, I swear that these were not abused at all. The products that they sell just suck and they should not be able to sell disposable products. The sad thing is that my kids really enjoy (and help mom keep sanity) while we are on the road. I haven’t been able to find another local store that sells dual screen as well as dual players. My recommendation is not to buy them unless you don’t mind driving to walmart every 6-12 weeks to exchange them.

(41) Heather says:

I read all of these negative comments and don’t understand. My mother bought my son a Venturer portable DVD player for Christmas ‘05 and it still works beautifully. We’ve moved since then and the kids love it when we drive the twelve hours to visit. It was a pretty good deal as far as I’m concerned even if it is a cheaper brand. And for those of you bashing the manufacturer — Haven’t you ever heard the old saying, “You get what you pay for?” If you don’t want to get burned buy a quality brand.
