Best Buy Adds Westinghouse LCD TV

Monday July 26, 2004
The LCD television marketplace is experiencing phenomenal growth as new manufacturers enter the market, causing increased competition, resulting in continuing price drops. Some LCD television models have experienced as much as a 30% price drop in less than a year. A prime example of this trend, that is making LCD televisions more affordable for the average consumer, Best Buy, the nations largest CE retailer, has inked a deal with Westinghouse Digital to sell their budget-priced 27 and 30-inch LCD televisions in its stores. For additional details, including pricing, check out the report from TWICE. For more information on specifications and features of these sets, check out the Westinghouse Digital Webpage.

Best Buy no longer sells the 37 inch LCD in their stores. I’ve bought two over the past 14 months and they have both broken.

Spend your money on name brands, not Westinghouse.

Which 37-Inch Westinghouse model are you referring to, the LVM-37w3 1080p monitor or the LTV-37w2 1366×768 television?

If you referring to the LVM-37w3, this unit has received excellent reviews and user comments - I actually use one as my 1080p reference set for product reviews of Blu-ray/HD-DVD and 1080p upscaling DVD players.

If you are referring to the LTV-37w2, I will check out additional info to see if there is a problem with the unit.

I bought the LVM37W1 from Best Buy in September of 2005 and it stopped working almost 14 months after I purchased it. Probably the power supply (it popped and smoked when turning it on).

Silly me, I bought the LMV37W3 to replace the W1 while waiting for parts. The W3 version of the TV lasted a little more than 24 HOURS before the picture just suddenly quit. Sound works but all inputs are dead black, no menus, etc.

Be warned, Westinghouse has no repair network that I know of, so the only option is shipping to their repair facility at your own cost.

I’m confused why you are so upset with a TV that has such a reasonable price? Clearly MANY flat screen TVs break for an abundance of tiny reasons, but that’s why you get the service plan if you buy from Best Buy. If they replace your TVs for no extra cost, what is the problem?

Whoa there buddy! I have a Westinghouse LCD in just about every room in my home. The oldest ones are working fine (going on 3yrs), but the newest one not so much. The HDMI port does not recognize any device. I also, purchased that Bestbuy plan for the sets. I tried to get a resolution on the issue, and they have been uncooperative. I am hoping that it is just the store location, and not a wide spread company issue, but so far I remain unimpressed with both Westinghouse (for lack us support) and Bestbuy (for not honoring their service agreement). I would suggest anyone who is looking at upgrading their TVs to do the research. You will find that the other brands out there are better than Westinghouse and are not that much more expensive in many cases.

I BOUGHT A 42 INCH WESTINGHOUSE IN JUNE, DIDN’T INSTALL IT UNTIL THE END OF JULY AND AS OF NOW AUGUST 21, IT’S BROKEN. IT HAS NO COLOR. BESTBUY IS GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND ON REPAIRING IT. A COWORKER INFORMED ME NOT TO BUY TVS FROM BESTBUY, BUT I DID. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM BESTBUY AGAIN!

I bought a 47 inch white-westinghouse LCD tv,
and nobody will work on it. I’ve been trying to get it fixed for one year. Sears repair men have neglected their appointments to repair it. From now on, name brand from Costco.
