Cablevision Unloads Voom

Monday January 24, 2005
Despite its aggressive promotional strategies, including a large booth at this year's CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which is pictured below, Voom, the all-high definition satellite service, has attracted less than 50,000 subscribers, far short if the millions of subscribers enjoyed by its rivals, DirecTV and Dish Network.

As a result, Cablevision, Voom's parent company, has sold one of Voom's satellites and related assets to Echostar (DishNetwork) for 200 million dollars. If you are a current subscriber to VOOM or are planning to sign up for VOOM service, it is important that you read the following report from The Street.
