Fujitsu Mulls Scaling Back Plasma-Display Panel Business
Wednesday January 26, 2005
Following in the steps of Sony and Toshiba, Fujitsu becomes the latest company to consider pulling out of the Plasma television market. Fujitsu was one of the early promoters of the Plasma television concept and played an important role in bringing Plasma television to the consumer. As part of its proposed pullout, Fujitsu is considering selling its Plasma manufacturing facilities to Hitachi. In the highly competitive television market, which includes LCD, DLP, and Plasma televisions as well as the entry of several new Chinese-branded competitors, a competitive shakeout in the market at this time may be timely. However, could this trend also mean that Plasma is falling out of favor? For additional details, check out the report from Channel News Asia.
