Macrovision Introduces RipGuard DVD Anti-Copy Technology

Wednesday February 16, 2005
Making copies of commercial DVD just became a lot more difficult as Macrovision introduces its new RipGuard technology that closes loopholes that currently exist in the CSS anti-copy encoding now used on commercial DVD products. This new copy-protection enhancement is targeted specifically to thwart digital copying via peer-to-peer networks and other forms of video piracy. In addition, according to the guidelines outlined in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, it is illegal to "hack" or bypass RipGuard technology. For further details on RipGuard and how this may affect DVD consumers, check out the report from Widescreen Review.
