According to sources close to the principals, Toshiba and Sony appear to still be in talks to figure out a way to unify their competing high definition DVD formats: HD-DVD and Blu-ray. However, it seems that even if a compromise is reached, it may be that HD-DVD and Blu-ray could still come to market as separate formats, with a unified format coming on board latter. The reason for this: Toshiba and Sony have already dug their trenches and are just about ready to roll with their separate formats. Any delays due to the coming up of a unified format will cost millions and postpone the introduction of hi-def DVD into the consumer market. My take -- Don't hold your breath on a prospective unified hi-def DVD format; I'll believe it when I actually see a real production model. Very detailed article with basis in fact and not idle speculation. Very important review since the general public will get caught in the proverbial Beta/VHS wars again if they don’t pay attention to pieces like one. Five Stars!!!!!!
