While the big political news is the Senate battle over the confirmation of judges and the looming battle over the future of social security, another issue that will have far reaching effects for the average American is the coming turnover to digital-only broadcast television. The latest proposal under consideration inlcudes setting the new analog television cutoff date for December 31, 2008. However, Democrats want assurance that the large number of consumers that may not have purchased digital televisions by that date have access to affordable digital-to-analog converter boxes, or can get financial assistance to purchase one.
