Toshiba Adopts HDMI-only Hi-Res Playback For HD-DVD

Thursday July 28, 2005
With the impending release date for high definition DVD getting closer, final specs and features for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD players are finally being revealed. In the latest news, Toshiba has announced that its HD-DVD format will transfer high def signals via HDMI only (which is also compatible with DVI with an adapter). As a result of this decision, all other connection options (component, S-Video, and composite) will result in a downconverted standard-res video signal. For more information on how this will affect consumers that own HDTVs, check out the report from Engadget.
