High Definition Video Recording

Thursday September 8, 2005
Although high definition DVD recording won't be available until Blu-ray and HD-DVD arrive sometime in 2006, you can currently record HDTV broadcasts onto hard drive recording devices, such as HD-DVRs (Digital Video Recorders) or PCs. For more details on these options, check out High Definition (HD) Options for Digital Video Recording (DVR) by Sal Prince, About Guide For Digital Video Recording.

Well, it’s October of 2007 and neither HD-DVD nor BluRay are practical recording mediums yet. Meahwhile, D-VHS has been fully capable since the dawn of HDTV in the US. Unfortunately, the lack of availability for machines and pre-recorded media in combination with the idiotic lack of customer support from JVC, the medium’s developer, has relegated this format to a customer segment willing to figure everything out for themselves, create software utilities to perform basic functionality that the manufacture should have provided, and spend far more money on a home theater device than any sane person should.
Hopefully, BluRay and/or HD-DVD will eventually take a much more mature direction and make high quality tools available to all home theater enthusiasts at a fair price.
