The day will come when analog TV broadcasting finally ends. Although the coming HDTV-only era promises stellar picture quality as the norm, instead of the exception, be careful what you wish for. In the dark and mysterious halls of the U.S. Congress, Senators and Representatives are plotting with MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) to impose the "Broadcast Flag". The "Broadcast Flag" is a special code that is to be imbedded in all digital television transmissions that determines how consumers can view and use television programming that is received. To put it simply, this code will determine whether or not you will be able to record a program, whether you will be able to record in Hi-Def or standard resolution, whether you will be able to make a second copy of an initial program recording, or if you will be able to distribute a recorded program over a home network. Obviously, this is one hot topic that the television viewing public really needs to be aware of. For further details on the state of the "Broadcast Flag", check out the report from Ultimate AV.
