The Price Of Watching Blu-ray

Tuesday February 14, 2006
Blu-ray Disc players and Movies will be arriving on store shelves by mid-year. However, how much will a Blu-ray Disc movie actually cost? Sony has just announced that its wholesale price for first release Blu-ray Disc movies will start out at $23.45. With actual shelf prices usually higher than the wholesale price, expect some Blu-ray Disc movies to be $30 or higher, which will bring Blu-ray disc prices up to Laserdisc pricing of the past. In addition, don't forget the $500 and up pricing for the first Blu-ray Players. With standard first release DVD's typically selling for $19.99, an inexpensive standard DVD player with HD-upscaling may not be such a bad alternative for many consumers after all, at least until the Blu-ray/HD-DVD war settles down.
