Amazon.com May Offer DVD Download Service

Saturday March 18, 2006
Amazon.com is currently in preliminary talks with several movie studios with the idea of offering users to opportunity download feature films and TV shows and burn them on their own DVDs at home - for a fee, of course. With video piracy continuing unabated, despite anti-copy coding schemes, Amazon and the movie studios see this as a possible opportunity to offer prospective consumers an inexpensive and efficient way to get the latest DVD movies without making a trip to the store or waiting for mail delivery, as well as providing a better quality product than one can get from a pirated copy of a DVD or feature film. For more details on this concept, as well as how it may impact both DVD retailing and the consumer, check out the report from CNET.
