Patent Application Submitted for Blu-ray/HD-DVD Dual Disc Technology

While many consumers and industry observers believe that the solution to the Blu-ray/HD-DVD war is to manufacture Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo players, two engineers at Warner Brothers may have come up with a solution: Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo discs. Under the specifications of the patent application, the new DVD-type disc can hold both Blu-ray and HD-DVD content on different layers. In addition, the disc can also hold either CD or standard DVD content in addition to both Blu-ray and HD-DVD programs.
