Sony Announces New Generation 1080p Video Projector

Saturday September 30, 2006
While most video projectors use either DLP or LCD technology, other technologies are also in use. One example is Sony's new VPL-VW50 DLP video projector that employs a variant of LCD, known as SXRD. The VPL-VW50 is the successor to the well-received Sony VPL-VW100 SXRD Video Projector. The VPL-VW50 offers a full 1080p (1920x1080) native pixel resolution via 3 SXRD Chips, as well as a maximum contrast ratio of 15,000:1. The VPL-VW50 also has 2 HDMI inputs. In addition, the price of the new VPL-VW50 is about half-that of it predecessor. With a new compact design and lower price/performance ratio, the VPL-VW50 may be worth a look for your home theater. For additional details, including pricing, check out the Official Sony Announcement and the Sony VPL-VW50 Product Page. The VPL-VW50 is anticipated to start shipping in October.
