Toshiba Lowers HD-DVD Player Price to $299 and The Matrix Battles The Pirates
Sunday May 20, 2007
Toshiba seems to pulling out all the stops on pushing its HD-DVD format. With the release of the Ultimate Matrix Collection and The Complete Matrix Trilogy this week on HD-DVD, and retailers promoting a new low $299 price (plus 5 free HD-DVD movies via mail) for the Toshiba HD-A2 entry-level HD-DVD player, it is hoped that consumers will be drawn to the format. For more details, check out Crutchfield, Best Buy, and Circuit City. Of course, Sony and the Blu-ray Camp aren't taking this one lying down: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest, and Mel Gibson's Apocalypto are all coming out on Blu-ray Disc this week, which should also spur some Blu-ray Disc player sales, even at their higher price points.
