Troubleshooting Your Home Theater System
Monday May 21, 2007
You've finished setting up your new home theater system and big-screen TV. You turn everything on and...nothing happens. Most consumers, including us "pros", have had moments like this. However, this doesn't mean that it is time pull out the cell phone and dial tech support or a repair man just yet. Before you grab the phone to contact the repairman, there are some practical things you can do, and knowledge you can arm yourself with, that may get your system running, or determine what the actual problem is that needs repair. For all the details, check out my article: Troubleshooting Your Home Theater System

I have a problem with a buzz from my brand new LCD TV, when first turning it on. I am not sure if it is a ground loop. I installed a Monster line conditioner to no avail. Is it normal for LCD tv’s to buzz until they are warnmed up?
This is a tricky one – Usually, it is Plasma TVs that buzz, especially at high altitudes – but not LCD sets.
This definitely requires a call to Tech Support for your TV. If it turns out not to be the TV – then there is something else going on with regards to your house wiring OR another appliance or an external interference issue. It is possible that it may be grounding issue either in your house wiring or in the TV power supply.
