Samsung May Show Blu-ray Disc/HD-DVD Combo Player Soon

This week, Samsung re-announced ( see previous report ) that it may bring its BDP-UP5000 Blu-ray Disc/HD-DVD combo player to market by October of this year, with a price tag about $500 above what a separate Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD player would cost. This probably means that the long awaited challenger to LG's BH100 will be about $999. Samsung also gave reassurance that the new player will be totally compatible with all Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD features. It is anticipated Samsung may show the player at the upcoming IFA Consumer Electronics Trade Show in Berlin in late August. For more on this, check out the report from Electronista.
