Hitachi Discontinues Rear Projection Television Line

Saturday July 7, 2007
With declining sales of Rear Projection Televisions and the surge in LCD and Plasma Flat Panel sets, Hitachi has announced that it will discontinue making Rear Projection CRT, LCD, and DLP Televisions. By devoting its resources in flat panel television technologies, Hitachi hopes to increase the number of LCD and Plasma models it can offer, and, hopefully, capture increased market share. For more details, check out the report from TV Predictions.

If other television makers adopt the same strategy, the future of Rear Projection Television may be in doubt. However, this could mean lower prices for such sets as inventory gets cleared out. If you are considering the purchase of a rear projection television, check out my reference article: Before You Buy a Rear Projection Television.
