Blu-ray Ahead Of HD-DVD In Sales By 2-to-1 So Far in 2007
In other words, if you compare the number of discs bought by owners of both formats, Blu-ray might be outselling HD-DVD by a wide margin, but individual HD-DVD player owners actually buy more discs than Blu-ray Disc player owners. This could a sign of one of the following: HD-DVD owners are more enthusiastic about their format OR most Sony Playstation 3 owners are not using it to play Blu-ray Discs.
Of course, when you compare any of these numbers to the number of standard DVD players and DVD discs sold, the numbers for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD are still miniscule. At this early stage, a sudden surge in sales from HD-DVD during the upcoming Christmas and Winter Holiday Shopping Season could even out sales numbers. On the other hand, if the Blu-ray Camp surges further during this time, it could put HD-DVD at a serious disadvantage. What do you think? Sure Transformers sold 190,000+ copies but don’t be so pathetic as to assume it’s because of HD DVD. People want the movie and the only available high def format is HD-DVD. If Transformers came out on Blu Ray, don’t you think it would have out sold HD DVD like every other release between HD DVD and Blu Ray?
Yes, you are probably right – however, since Paramount and Dreamworks is now HD-DVD exclusive – at least for the next 18 months – their films will only be available on HD-DVD, so your point about “if” Transformers was available on Blu-ray is moot – as it isn’t available on Blu-ray Disc. BTW – many Blu-ray Exclusive titles in the U.S. are now available on HD-DVD overseas, which is an interesting trend – since HD-DVD is not region coded like Blu-ray is.

This is a question I can’t find an answer to, what is the situation on recordable formats? Sure, it’s nice to have all that GB but what good is it really if you can’t record in HD at it’s finist setting?
