CES News: Mitsubishi Introduces Laser TV
Wednesday January 9, 2008
At an invitation-only event at the trendy Moon Club in the Palms Hotel - Casino in Las Vegas, complete with Go-Go girls and a laser light show, Mitsubishi showed off its latest concept for the television market, the Laser TV. Due to be released to the general public by the end of 2008, laser TV utilizes a new type of projection system in which laser beams are its light source. The result is more precise color, wider contrast ratio, and very large screen capability at a lower price than Plasma and LCD. I was impressed with what I saw, but with the increasing dominance of Plasma and LCD, combined with the shrinking market for DLP projection televisions, it remains to be seen if the Laser TV will be a consumer success. Stay tuned for more on Laser TV as additional information becomes available. For a look at the Moon Club festivities, check out the great photo gallery from Gizmodo.
