I had the opportunity to attend an annual CEDIA Management Conference. CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) is the official trade organization for the Home Theater Installation Industry. The Management Conference is held every year so that home theater-custom installers, dealers, and manufacturers from around North America can come together to network and refine their role in relation to the consumer.

At CEDIA Management Conferences, workshops and discussions ranging from the latest product trends, to the current state of the real estate market, to core business standards and practices, that have an effect on both the installer and consumer are conducted. From the journalistic point of view, the main take-away is getting an inside look at the home theater industry via interaction with actual dealers and installers.

For the consumer, the main thing that is put forth is that working with a home theater installer is not the same as going to a retailer to purchase a bunch of components, going home, and hooking it all up. The role of the home theater installer is to provide a complete experience for the consumer. The details of each individual component is not the primary focus. The primary focus is the final experience.

In other words, the goal of the home theater installer is to provide a complete package that provides access to all desired audio and video content. The consumer provides the room and the budget, while the installer puts together a complete package of components to provide the best entertainment experience possible. The installer presents the complete package to the consumer for consideration. The consumer doesn't have to decide each brand/model of component to be used.

Stay tuned to this site for more specifics on what consumers need to know when working with a home theater installer, and how an installer can provide you with a personally tailored home theater experience. CEDIA Management Conference Logo (c) CEDIA
