Sharp and Amimon Team Up For Wireless HDTV
Flat panel televisions are great, but they still have one obvious flaw, you still have to connect the wires. That is, until now. Amimon, makers of a wireless video transmission technology, called WHDI, has teamed up with Sharp to incorporate this innovation into a new line of flat panel LCD televisions, dubbed the X-Series. WHDI will eliminate the need to connect video cables, including HDMI cables, from source components to the television. The new LCD line from Sharp will feature 37, 42, or 46-inch screen sizes. The WHDI equipped wireless sets will be available in Japan first, but should make their way to U.S. later this year or early next, if they are well received.
I had a chance to see Amimon's WHDI technology demonstrated in a Belkin wireless HDMI exhibit at this past year's CES, (see photos: 1, 2) and was impressed with the quality of the transmitted high definition images. Now, if they can only get rid of the power cord....
