You read that right. In an odd move, Panasonic has decided to introduce a Blu-ray/VHS Combo Recorder, the DMR-BR630V, to Japanese consumers on October 1st 2008. In addition to both Blu-ray and VHS recording and playback, the DMR-BR630V also features standard DVD recording and a 320 GB hard drive with recording and storage capability. However, don't expect to see this unit available in the U.S. anytime soon, if ever. To this day, although plentiful in Japan and other Asian countries for about two years, no standalone Blu-ray Disc recorders have been made available to U.S. consumers. For more details on the DMR-BR630V, check out the report from Gizmodo. In addition, check out the Official Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Recorder Product Page (In Japanese).
