With the economic downturn, combined with the pressure to buy affordable gifts for the upcoming Winter Holidays, Memorex has announced an affordable Blu-ray Disc player that may be an attractive gift option. With an announced price of $269, the MVBD-2510 offers the basics, Blu-ray/DVD/CD playback, on-board decoding of Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD, and features both HDMI and 5.1 channel analog audio outputs. One disappointment is that the player does not offer the latest Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) functioning, but does adhere to Profile 1.1 (Bonus View) specifications. This player will be available in November and may end up being discounted during the upcoming holidays. For more details, check out the report from PR Newswire.

I wonder how this unit will compare with either the Sony, Panasonic, Sharp or Samsung Blu-ray players? Basically, what kind of Blu-ray video and audio can someone expect and what about standard DVD upscaling? I own the Sony BDP-S300 and I think it handles both formats very well, so it will be interesting to see if the Memorex approaches that, performance-wise.
