On a personal note, I actually started my past retail career as a sales associate at Circuit City in the early nineties, when it was at the top of its game. However, with increased competition from Best Buy, Fry's, Costco, Walmart, etc... and several bad marketing (remember DIVX - Digital Video Express?) and staff decisions (eliminating their most experienced commissioned salespeople) over the years, Circuit City has seen a series of ups and downs and may have lost its focus on the customer. In any case, if Circuit City disappears from the consumer electronics scene, that will result in less competition, and competition is what keeps prices low.
In the meantime, Circuit City will remain open and operating through the Holiday Season, and, minus 155 stores, into 2009, under the auspices of Chapter 11 regulations.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that Circuit City has been getting hammered for years. Best Buy offers better pricing, selection and service in a physical store and Internet stores offer infinite selection and better prices. This is just another example of a bad company that can’t survive a downturn.
