The ability of 3D film releases, such as Monsters vs Aliens, to draw large crowds at local cimemas is not lost on the consumer electronics industry as the the race is on to bring the 3D cinema experience into every home in the U.S. At recent tradeshows, such as CES, 3D technology prototypes and products have been prominently featured. As a result of this continuing trend, a new 3D-only TV Network now seems to be in the planning stages and JVC has announced a new 3D-capable LCD flat panel television. On the other hand, Philips appears to be taking a step back by abandoning its promising 3D TV display technology that doesn't require special glasses. I had a chance to see an early prototype of a Philips no-glasses required 3D TV at a past CES in 2007 (photo). What do you think about 3DTV - is it really practical, or is it just all hype?
