Audyssey DSX Raises and Widens The Bar on Surround Sound

The recent annoucement of the Onkyo TX-SR607 home theater receiver with Dolby Prologic IIz processing, which adds a vertical component to the surround sound experience, has been creating a stir in the home theater community.

However, according to the folks at Audyssey, the only way to experience "real" surround sound is to implement their new DSX (Dynamic Surround Expansion) processing. Audyssey DSX adds front vertical-height speakers, similar to Prologic 11z, but also incorporates the addition of left/right wide speakers positioned between the front left and right and surround left and right speakers.

It is anticipated that DSX-equipped home theater receivers and surround sound preamp-processors will appear before the year is out. For all the details, check out the report from TWICE and the Official Audyssey DSX Page. Just what we needed, more channels and more speakers...
