News From CEATEC: Toshiba Takes The Lid Off Of Its Super-Charged LCD TV

Wednesday October 7, 2009
In what may be the most sophisticated merging of TV, video processing, and DVR technology so far, the new 55-inch Toshbia REGZA 55X1 LED/LCD TV incorporates Full Array LED backlighting technology, the CELL processing platform (similar to the CELL processor used in the Sony PS3) which enhances video quality, and an onboard 3-Terabyte hard drive capable of recording up to eight over-the-air digital TV channels at the same time.

The Toshiba REGZA 55X1 is expected to be available in Japan beginning in December. The price will be the approximate equivalent of $11,000 U.S. No word as to if, or when, this set will be available in the U.S. My guess is that a version of this set will displayed at CES in January minus the 3-Terabyte hard drive feature to comply with U.S. copy-protection enforcement. For more details as they stand, check out the official Toshbia REGZA 55X1 announcement and a report from PC World.
