In advance of the 2011 CEDIA EXPO, some manufacturers are sending out notices on products they will be displaying at the show. In this spirit, Velodyne is unveiling a new high-end subwoofer that it hopes will attract the lot ears of a lot of dealers and press during the show.

The Digital Servo-10 (DS-10) features a hefty $1,999 price tag, but this is no ordinary sub. Starting with the basics, the DS-10 comes equipped with a 10-inch driver with a Kevlar-reinforced cone, supported by heavy-duty 19.3 pound magnet. This assembly is then further supported by a 1,250 watt (RMS) ERS Class-D amplifier.

In order to get the best performance possible in a given room, the DS-10 features Velodyne's Digital Drive. Digital Drive is a room correction technology that can automatically match the performance of a subwoofer to the characteristics of the room it is placed in. Just set the included microphone at the desired listening position, press the EQ button on the provided remote control, and the Digital Servo-10 sub will correct for any bass performance anomalies caused by the subwoofer's position and your room using a built-in 8-band parametric equalizer. You can even confirm the adjustments being made by the subwoofer on your TV screen, via its built-in video output. How many subwoofers can you watch on your TV?

In addition, you also have the option of making adjustments manually and there are also several response presets (Music, Movies, Games, and even a neighbor-friendly Night Mode) available as well.

The DS-10 isn't a subwoofer for everybody, especially for the bargain hunter, but if you planning to upgrade to, or are building, a custom-installed home theater setup the DS-10 may be worth a serious look and listen, at least based on the information available so far.
