Panasonic's 2012 TV offerings continue to make their way onto store shelves. This year, Panasonic is putting increasing emphasis on LED/LCD TVs in addition to new Plasma sets.

Note: The first two digits in the model numbers listed below designate the diagonal screen size in inches.

Plasma TVs:

U50 series - TC-P50U50 (compare prices). This single entry offers 1080p resolution, 600Hz Sub Field Drive, and access to images, music, and video stored on either USB flash drives or SD memory cards.

GT50 series - TC-P50GT50 (compare prices), TC-P55GT50, (compare prices), TC-P60GT50 (suggested Price: $2,599), and the TC-P65GT50 (coming soon - suggested price: $3,299). This series features THX certification for both 2D and 3D, Panasonic's Infinite Black Pro Panel for improved black level response, Built-in Wifi, internet streaming, and DLNA functionality, and built-in audio system that features eight mini-dome speakers.

VT50 Series - TC-P55VT50 (suggested price: $3,499), TC-P65VT50 (coming soon - $3,699). This series has everything offered in the GT50 series, with the addition of ISF calibration setting options and Infinite Black Ultra for even better black level performance.

LED/LCD TVs:

X5 series - TC-L24X5 (coming soon - suggested price: $249), TC-L32X5 (compare prices). These are small screen entry level LED/LCD sets offered by Panasonic, but they still include some great features, such as an IPS LCD panel for wide viewing angle, 720p resolution, and access to media files stored on USB flash drives and SD cards.

U5 Series - TC-L42U5 (coming soon - suggested price $599), This series adds 1080p native resolution, and also features USB Flash Drive media file playback.

DT50 Series - TC-L47DT50 (compare prices), TC-L55DT50 (compare prices) class. This series adds backlight scanning in addition to the screen refresh rate for smoother motion response, built-in Wifi connectivity, active 3D glasses technology, built-in 2D-to-3D conversion, and built-in audio system that features eight mini-dome speakers.

WT Series - TC-L47WT50 (suggested price: $2,299), TC-L55WT50 (coming soon - $2,999). This is the top series in the Panasonic LED/LCD line-up and has the features of the DT50 series but adds enhanced internet streaming access, including Internet Streaming and Social Networking TV functions, supported with built-in Wi-Fi. ISF calibration setting options are also included.

My Take: These latest offerings from Panasonic expands their dual track in providing both Plasma and LCD options for consumers. In addition, Panasonic is also extending both active (GT50 Series) and passive (ET5 Series) 3D and screen sizes up to 55-inches in its LCD line-up.
