Consumer Alert: Best Buy To Match Online Prices For The Holidays

It looks like Best Buy will be matching online prices this 2012 holiday shopping season in an effort to combat the Showrooming phenomenon. There is no word yet on if the price matching policy will include all related internet shopping sites, or just select ones, such as Amazon, that Best Buy feels are seriously cutting into their own profits.

However, one thing to keep in mind is that price matching policies are usually only valid when comparing prices on the same product model numbers. In other words, if Amazon and Best Buy are selling a TV with the same brand name that has the same features, but the model number is even slightly different - that could give Best Buy an "out" on the price match. With Best Buy in dire need to have a strong holiday shopping season - It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

As an additional note, Best Buy has also indicated that it will offer free shipping of items that may be out-of-stock at local stores during the holidays. However, be sure to check the ads to make sure the product you are looking for in store is not advertised as a limited quantity promotional item.
