The Amazing Spider-Man Slings His Web Onto Blu-ray

The much talked-about Summer super hero reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The film re-starts the celebrated Marvel franchise with a slightly different take on the origin of Spider-Man (this time played by Andrew Garfield), including a different romantic interest (Gwen Stacy - played by Emma Stone) for our web-slinger. Unfortunately, one of my favorite Spider-Man characters, crazy newspaper editor, J. Jonah Jameson, is not in this version (at least in this first film).

The Amazing Spider-Man has a dark tone not only terms of character development and story execution, but in the overall filmed look of the film. This dampens the effectiveness of the 3D execution, but the Spider-Man POV shots and the climatic battle scenes between Spider-Man and his foe, The Lizard, deliver a very good 3D viewing experience.

The film comes in several Blu-ray/DVD packages. In addition to three disc Blu-ray/DVD and four disc 3D Blu-ray/DVD combo packs, there is also a Limited Collector's Edition that includes Spider-Man and Lizard figurines, a Target Exclusive that comes with an extra bonus special feature disc, a Walmart Exclusive comes with a Spider-Man Mask Case, and a Best Buy 3D Blu-ray combo pack that comes in a Steelbook case.

The Blu-ray 2D and 3D discs in each edition feature the MPEG-4 MVC video codec and are presented in full 1080p resolution at a 2.40:1 Aspect Ratio, with DTS-HD Master Audio (English) and Dolby Digital 5.1 (English, Spanish). Also, English SDH (subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing) are provided, along with standard French and Spanish subtitles.

There are also a host of bonus features. Here is a summary of what is included in all the Blu-ray editions (in addition to the film, of course):

- Rite of Passage: The Amazing Spider-Man Reborn (a seven-part documentary that covers the entire story-to-film process)
- Deleted Scenes (a total of 11 deleted scenes)
- Commentary with Marc Webb (Director), Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach (Producers)
- The Oscorp Archives (Production Art Gallery)
- Stunt Rehearsals
- Image Progression Reels
- Developing the Amazing Spider-Man Videogame
- 16 Pre-Visualization Sequences (select scenes presented in storyboard or limited animation formats)
- The Amazing Spider-Man Second Screen App (iPad version) - (Sony Tablet Version)
- Ultraviolet Digital Copy

Also, the following added features are included on the 3D Blu-ray Disc version (both features contain 3D viewing segments):

- 3D 101 with Director Marc Webb
- Iconic Poses and Digital Environments (3D Image Progression Reel)
