Well, here we go again. The on-again, off-again, rumored Apple "iTV", looks like it is officially on, according to a brief statement made by Apple CEO, Tim Cook during a prime-time TV interview with Brian Williams on NBC's Rock Center. Quoting Mr. Cook from the telecast - "When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years......It's an area of intense interest. I can't say more than that." My Translation: Something is in the pipeline, but you won't see it until we want you to.
In an online follow-up discussion between Brian Williams and Joshua Topolsky of The Verge, touching on the TV comments, Toplonsky expressed an opinion that in order for Apple to succeed in the TV space, they need to bring a lot to the table. In addition to the physical screen, the supporting control interface and content delivery system has to be a game changer in order attract consumers away from establish brands and technologies already available. Apple needs to make their TV a "must-have" home entertainment solution, otherwise it will just get mired in the already crowded TV market.
