The annual Spring home theater product announcements keep on coming. Just last month, Sony announced its new entry-level home theater receivers. Now, they have added two mid-line entries, the STR-DN840 and STR-DN1040.
The STR-DN840 and DTR-DN1040 both provide up to a 7.2 channel speaker configuration, that can be set with either surround back, front height, or bi-amp speaker configuration. ).
The STR-DN840 provides 6 HDMI 1.4a-enabled inputs and one output, while the STR-DN1040 provides 8 HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs that provide 3D and up to 4K pass-through (the STR-DN1040 adds 4K Upscaling), and Audio Return Channel. Also, one HDMI input on each receiver is MHL-enabled.
However, there is more. A front mounted USB port is provided on both receivers for access to audio and video content from iPod/iPhone or USB flash drives, as well as built-in wired (ethernet) or wireless (WiFi) network connectivity, which provides access to DLNA functions and Internet Radio.
In addition to built-in WiFi, both receivers also incorporate Airplay and Bluetooth, which provides even more convenient wireless access to streaming audio content from both iOS and Android devices. In fact, in addition to the provided remote control, Sony's free downloadable Media Remote app for iOS or Android devices can also be used to the control the major functions of the STR-DN840 and DN1040.
For easy setup, both receivers also include Sony's Digtial Cinema Auto Calibration speaker setup system.
These new home theater receivers pack in a lot features for the price, without ignoring core audio and video performance. Keep an eye out for these once they reach store shelves.
