With the 2nd Edition of the Spears and Munsil High Definition Benchmark Disc, both the average consumer, or the professional installer, have access to this useful test tool to find out whether or not an HDTV, Blu-ray Disc player, or an external video processor/scaler is delivering the performance that it claims to deliver on paper.
The disc is formatted for 16x9 displays and features a variety of tests and video footage that are designed to test the capabilities of the video processors built-in your home theater components. In addition to deinterlacing, scaling, noise reduction, and color accuracy tests, the disc also allows users to check the motion response of TVs that incorporate 120Hz and/or 240Hz screen refresh rates.
Also new in this 2nd Edition are a series of 3D viewing tests that check for brightness and crosstalk performance, as well as a series of audio calibration tests that check speaker phase, frequency response, and A/V synch.
The disc package includes both a Blu-ray Disc that contains the high-definition version of the 2D and 3D video tests, as well as a standard DVD that contains the 2D-only tests tests for checking the video upscaling capabilities DVD players, HDTVs, and video projectors.
