Which TV is the best? The truth of the matter is that the answer to this question is not only determined by the numbers, but the subjective opinion based on each individual viewer's perceptions and needs.

To pin down the best TV that takes both technical and observational factors into consideration, Value Electronics conducts an annual TV shootout (now in its ninth year) in which a selected group of experts and consumers take part.

The TVs selected for the 2013 shootout included three top plasmas:

Panasonic TC-P65ZT60 - Compare Prices

Panasonic TC-P65VT60 - Compare Prices

Samsung PN64F8500 - Compare Prices

...and three top LED/LCD TVs (including a Sony 4K set):

Sony 4K XBR-65X900A - Compare Prices

Panasonic TC-L55WT60 - Compare Prices

Samsung UN55F8000 - Compare Prices

Also included for black level performance reference, the legendary Pioneer Kuro KRP-500M.

After a series of objective tests taking factors such as Black Level, Contrast, Color Accuracy, Sharpness, Viewing capability in a well-lit room, and General Perceived Video Quality, Value Electronics has declared the Samsung PN64F8500 Plasma TV as the "Best" TV of 2013, by a very narrow margin.

However, that isn't the whole story as Plasma and LED/LCD maker LG, and LED/LCD-only brands Sharp, Toshiba, and others were not included. I would have especially liked to have seen how the Sharp Elite sets would have faired.

To find out more on how each TV placed in the shootout, check out the complete results posted by Value Electronics.
