In order to get the full home theater surround sound experience, you really need a 5.1 or 7.1 channel home theater receiver with a speaker system and subwoofer. However, Bang & Olufsen, the Danish-based consumer electronics manufacturer that is well-known for their innovative product designs and very high-prices, has upgraded their 65-inch Beovision 12-65 Plasma TV with a 7.1 channel sound module.
The current version of the Beovision 12-65 already features a built-in center channel speaker the runs along the bottom of the screen bezel, along with connections for additional left and right channel speakers, but now, with the addition of the new 7.1 channel sound module, users of the "New Generastion" of the Beovision 12-65 can add surround left/right, and surround back left/right speakers (there are also provisions to add a subwoofer), directly to the TV. In other words, no home theater receiver required.
The Beovision 12-65 New Generation is expected to arrive at authorized Bang & Olufsen stores and other authorized dealers sometime in September 2013. Expect the price to be around $12,000 - that is just for the TV - the speakers (other than the built-in center channel speaker) are all extra.
