The official logo for CES 2002 (used by permission), Las Vegas, Nevada, January 8-11.
CES is a showcase for smaller, independent manufacturers and Outlaw Audio was on hand with its small, but impressive product line, including its Model 950 surround sound processor, ICBM Bass Management system for SACD and DVD-Audio applications, and its soon-to-be released Internet Radio.
The Haier group, a large OEM manufacturer was on hand to show off its own distinctive branded products.
Haier's multi-colored TV line includes a distinctive tabletop pink TV and two-tone green trim console TV.
Vialta was another independent company on hand at CES displaying its unique Interactive DVD player equipped with internet capabilities.
The most "secretive" company on hand at CES was 1 Limited, which claims to have developed a single source surround sound speaker technology (referred to as digital sound projection) that is fully compatible with all current surround sound formats. Still in prototype stage, they restricted auditions to select individuals. I, and several press colleagues were not afforded a demo of what might be a truly breakthrough technology.
On the other hand, companies such as Open Globe were more that willing to share their products with everyone at CES. The picture above shows a demonstration of their impressive media management software applications, which are licensed to manufacturers, such as Kenwood.
