One controversial product on display at CES was DVDxCOPY by 321 Studios. In summary, this software allows you to "clone" your DVD. Basically, you can copy all the contents of any DVD onto your hard drive and then make a backup copy to a blank DVD-R. This software will even copy the interactive menus and most supplementary material onto the "clone". Obviously, this is a controversial product, but it must be noted that along with copying your DVD, you also copy the copyguard signal as well. In other words, you cannot copy the copy onto videotape or another DVD recorder.
Regarding DVD, Philips was on hand promoting not only its latest DVD recorders, but also the DVD+R/+RW format. Above is a photo of the DVDR75 DVD recorder and Philip's DVD+R/+RW Kiosk.
While manufacturers are pushing the currently available DVD recording formats, ground has already be broken on the High Definition DVD recording as several manufacturers, including Samsung and Zenith (photos above) proudly displayed their prototypes for future HD-DVD reocorders based on the Blu-Ray format.
Zenith had an impressive display at CES. Here is a photo of the Zenith C27V22 27-inch HD-upgradable flat tube Television.
On the opposite end of the spectrum Zenith also displayed their giant 60-inch P60W36K Plasma monitor.
Sharp really has a commitment to LCD flat screen monitors as is evident by its clever booth design.
