Progressive Scan - What You Need To Know About Progressive Scan
DVD has not only changed the way we watch video content, but has changed the way we set up our video and audio components. The consumer is now faced not only with standard video hookups for DVD, but also has the option of progressive scan video setup. In this article I present a basic overview of progressive scan and why it is important to the enjoyment of your home theater experience.

FROM THE HOME THEATER FORUM
DLP VS PLASMA...
From EBCOBRA93:
I am currently in the market for a new HD television. For the longest time, I had wanted a new plasma. But, now I hear more about this new DLP technology. Space is a concern for me...but not the deciding factor. I just want a really good big screen picture in a tv that will last. Depending on what site you go to, you will hear that plasma is better than DLP....or that DLP is better than plasma. I am mainly talking about picture quality...as the space savings benefit with the plasma are obvious. Also, plasmas are currently a bit more expensive than DLP technology. If the plasma is indeed a better picture...is it worth the extra price over DLP?

New Portable Video Players From iRiver
Portable audio and video players are all the rage for those on the go these days. Check out the latest portable video players from iRiver, as reported by Nino Marchetti, About Guide To Portable Entertainment/Electronics

FROM THE MAILBOX
From JL:
We have a "Standard" style TV which has a screen size of 26 inches from corner to corner how does this relate to the quoted screen size of a LCD panel TV What would be the equivalent size of a LCD PAnel. I am looking at Models that Quote 26 and 32 inch.

From Your Guide:
LCD TVs that are listed as 26-inch or 30 or 32-inch have 16x9 screen aspect ratios - which is wider than your 26-inch standard TV (which has a 4x3 aspect ratio), but not quite as tall, vertically.

Basically, a 26-inch LCD TV has the same picture height of a 20-21 inch set, but is several inches wider at the sides and a 30 or 32 inch LCD TV has about the same picture height as a 26 or 27-inch standard TV, but, once again, is several inches wider at the sides.

For more details on 16x9 television technology, including an explanation of screen aspect ratios and why they are important, check out my article on the topic:

Widescreen Television - The 16x9 Factor

I would also encourage you to go to Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, or other dealer near you and actually see such sets in operation - take your tape measure with you.
