FROM THE HOME THEATER FORUM
Home Theater Or Not
From CHOPPBOBBY:
I have a TV, satellite system, VCR,and a DVD player hooked up to an old receiver. I want to replace it with something that will play all of these with Surround Sound.

The old (present) system I have has those huge speakers which are OK, but they are big. ( Iwould like to replace them with some that are smaller ). Which is the best way to go here? Buy a receiver and use my current speakers? or buy a Home Theater system and get rid of all of my old components?

Do Home Theater systems have provisions for input/outputs for components other than a DVD player? In other words can I hook my TV, satellite receiver, and VCR to one of these systems?

Any other considerations that I should know about?

FROM THE MAILBOX
From K:
It seems to me that if the only purpose of DVD encoding is to keep DVDs in one region from encroaching on movie release dates in another, that could be solved by embedding a disable date to the restriction feature so that the DVD could be played on any DVD player after, say, 6 months. That they don't do that simple thing seems to point very strongly to an ulterior motive.
From Your Guide:
Very good point!
