ARTICLE SPOTLIGHT
Video Resolution: An Overview
When you shop for a television, DVD player, or camcorder, your discussion with the salesperson always seems to touch a lot on factors revolving around resolution. It's lines this and pixels that and so forth... After a while, none of it seems to make sense. In the above article, I shed some light on this topic, hopefully making the nature of video resolution more understandable.

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK
Samsung DVD-HD931 DVD Player
High definition DVDs aren't here yet, but Samsung has come out with the next best thing, a DVD player that will upconvert its signal output to either 720p or 1080i. In other words, if you own an HD or HD-upradable TV with DVI input, you can watch any DVD in High Definition, thanks to its Faroudja de-interlacer/scaler. This works especially well with Plasma and LCD monitors as well as DLP video projectors. Of course, the DVD-HD931 has all the standard video outputs and features you would expect from a DVD player, including CD/CDR/CDRW/MP3 and WMA playback.

FROM THE HOME THEATER FORUM
RF Repeater
From RGALONSO:
...I want to transmit an RF signal from one room to another.

...I have satellite and a single receiver. The satellite signal, after passing through the receiver, is sent to TVs in the living room (where the receiver is) and downstairs using a splitter. If the living room is being used (entertaining guests, watching DVD, etc) and someone wants to watch TV downstairs, they have to go upstairs everytime they want to change the channel. This occurs so rarely that buying the second satellite receiver isn't worth it, but often enough that it's a pain in the rear. I'd like to buy (or build) a set of devices that a) receives the RF signal downstairs, b) transmits upstairs via coax or similar medium, and c) transmits the RF signal to the satellite receiver.

I've already tried Google but the best thing that comes up for "RF repeater" or "RF extender" is the Phillips RFX6000, which to my understanding can be used only for a specific Phillips product.

Any information would be really appreciated.

FROM THE MAILBOX
From Nicole:
...I have a question regarding adapters for VHS. If I live in the United States and I have a friend who lives in England and they taped a program for me on their VHS VCR why can I not view it on my VCR? The tapes look the same but apparently they are not. Is there an adapter that I can buy to make it possible for me to be able to view programs that this friend of mine would tape for me from England? I've asked everyone in all the electronics stores that I can think of and nobody even knows what I'm talking about!
