Setting Up Home Entertainment System
From D:
I am very new to the home entertainment world. I have mainly sony equipment, str rec, 5.1 surround w/ SW speaker system, DVD, VCR and 2 year old TV. I have hooked it up myself and it works fine, however it isnt set up the way i want or think it can be. I have two questions:
1. What is the best cable connecters to use. S-cable, component etc?
2. How can I find a professional to come set up the system for me if I chose to go in that direction?

FROM THE MAILBOX
From Sharon:
...I want to transfer some old video8 tapes to digital, and I have
the equipment for that. Problem is that my old sony video 8 camera
does not work, (not cost-effective to repair), so I can't connect the camera to my new camera (Canon ZR70). I also cannot watch the old tapes, because the camera does not work. Any suggestions?
From Your Guide:
There are three options:
1. Borrow an 8mm camcorder from a friend or neighbor use until you are done making your digital copies.
2. Buy an inexpensive 8mm camcorder (you can get a Hi8 camcorder new for less than $200 now -- and it can still play your old 8mm tapes).
3. Buy a portable Hi8 or Digital8 deck (very expensive) to play back your tapes on.
The one thing you can't do is put your 8mm tapes in a regular VCR -- see my article on this: http://hometheater.about.com/library/weekly/aa100600a.htm
