Transistors and Learning Disability
From LEODEFOREST:
I was in a surplus electronics store today and ran into a guy who told me about 'a Stanford study' that demonstrated 73% of children raised listening to music played over transistorized equipment grew up with learning disabilities, far more than that of children raised listening to music via tube equipment. I just spent 30 minutes typing in every combination of words onto google trying to find this study and turned up empty. Anyone else ever hear of this?

FROM THE MAILBOX
From Ash:
I have a Dishnetwork DVR508 Satellite Receiver/Recorder. I have been recording some of the TV programs I like but now the hard disk on the DVR is getting full. I would like to copy those program to a DVD so that I can watch them later. The DVR508 has output jacks for Audio/Video.

I picked up a Phillips DVDR72 and before connecting to the DVR508 I tried to connect to a Panasonic DVD player to check if I can get a passthrough signal from DVD player to DVD recorder to TV, and I could not get any signals. Is it because the DVD recorder s do not allow a progressive scan VDV output from a DVD player?

From Your Guide:
You can record programs from your DVR hard drive to your DVD recorder, just connect the AV outputs of the DVR to the AV inputs of the DVD recorder.

However, there are two reasons you cannot connect a DVD player to a DVD recorder:

1. Since most DVDs are copy protected with macrovision anti-copy encoding, the signal from a DVD player will not pass through correctly through a DVD recorder -- this prevents you from making copies of DVDs.

2. You are correct about the progressisve scan issue. Progressive scan is a playback issue, not a recording issue -- in other words, the incoming signal into the component inputs of the DVD recorder need to be standard interlaced video -- upon playback of the recorded DVD, the DVD recorder can output the recording in progressive scan mode.
