FROM THE MAILBOX
From SR:
I just read your very informative article from 2002. I just bought an LD of one of my favorite movies; and, I don't even have a player; but, it was never made into a dvd.

Do you have a source for recording it professionally to dvd?

This is for personal use; but, I do have a fantasy about getting the rights to manufacture and distribute this one film in dvd form. I can't seem to get any current information on who owns the rights. Do you have any suggestions for finding out that info?

From Your Guide:
There are services, perhaps in your city, that have the ability to copy a laserdisc to DVD -- check in the phone booth for video duplication or video editing services - however, they may not do it if they think that it is copyrighted material.

There are two ways you can get an indication of the film if it is in public domain (which means anyone can copy it) -- one way is to contact the studio that made the Laserdisc -- the other is to look up and see if there are any current copyrights on the film -- (however, you may still need legal advice from a copyright or entertainment lawyer to be absolutely sure -- as the list is not completely updated)

Here is the link to the online version of the U.S. copyright office - just follow the instructions and see what comes up for the film title -- however, you should also do the same for the screenplay and music:
