Starting with the top portion of the photo is the LED display panel. This panel shows the status of all the receiver functions.
Just below the LED panel is a row of lights that show if the following functions are on or off: Phase, MCACC, Digital Precision Processing, Digital Video Scaler, and HDMI input status.
Moving down, the next row is occupied by the source select buttons.

Starting on the bottom left is the Headphone Output and on the bottom right are the front panel Audio Video inputs (explained in the next photo). The remaining space on the front panel features the more advanced functions of the VSX-1018AH-K.
The Auto Surround/Stream Direct switches between the audio enhancement functions (such as surround sound processing) and the bypass function with allows the audio signals to go throught the receiver unaffected by extra enhancement.
The Sound Retriever enhances the audio quality from compressed music sources, such as MP3 files.
The Standard Surround button provides access to Dolby Digital and DTS-related surround sound functions.
The Advanced Surround button provides access to extra surround sound processing, Sci-Fi, TV, Sports, Classical, etc...
