The Onkyo TX-SR875 is a next-generation THX Ultra2 Certified home theater receiver that incorporates onboard decoding of the latest surround sound formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. In addition, this receiver offers upscaling of all analog video signals via Silicon Optix HQV processing, extensive connection options that are easily accessible, power to spare, and excellent audio performance. Product Overview

NOTE: The following Product Overview section is re-edited from my earlier Onkyo TX-SR875 Product Profile.

1. Video Inputs/Outputs: This receiver offers 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output; 3 Component inputs/1 output; 5 Composite Video and S-Video inputs; 2 analog audio-only inputs, and front panel A/V inputs. A VCR/DVR/VCR loop is provided.

2. Video Processing: The TX-SR875 employs Silicon Optix HQV processing which upscales all incoming video signals to 720p, 1080i, 1080p for output via HDMI video outputs.

3. Digital Audio Inputs/Outputs: The TX-SR875 has 3 Digital Coaxial and 3 Digitl Optical) Audio inputs, Analog stereo audio connections, one Digital Optical audio output, and a set of 5.1 channel audio inputs to for DVD-Audio, SACD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD 5.1 channel analog audio connection options. The TX-SR875 can also access multi-channel audio via its HDMI 1.3a connections. The SR875 also has a two sets of stereo preamp outputs for multi-zone operation.

4. Analog Audio Inputs/Outputs: Analog stereo; subwoofer pre-out; 5.1 channel inputs and outputs; 2 sets of stereo pre-outs for multi-zone use.

5. Audio Processing: Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, Dolby ProLogic IIx, Dolby Prologic IIx processing allows extraction of 7.1-channel audio from any stereo or multichannel source.

The TX-SR875 also decodes DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks on Blu-ray Discs and HD-DVDs via its HDMI 1.3a compatible inputs. Neural Surround processing is also included, which allows access XM satellite radio surround broadcasts.

6. Multi-Zone: The TX-SR875 can be used in a full 7.1 channel configuration, or in a 5.1 channel configuration in the main home theater room, with simultaneous 2 channel operation in a second room. However, if you want to use the full 7.1 channels for your home theater room, you can still run two additional independently controlled 2-channel systems in other rooms by using the Zone 2 and Zone 3 preamp outputs. However, you will have to add secondary amplifiers to power the speakers in Zone 2 and 3

7. Subwoofer/LFE Crossover Adjustment: A 10 step crossover (from 40Hz to 200Hz) on the Subwoofer LFE (Low Frequency Effects) pre-out channel is provided. Setting points can be changed depending on the size and frequency response characteristics of the both the Subwoofer and rest of the speakers being used in the system.

8. Amplifier Characteristics: 140 Watts-per-channel of continuos power (measured with 2 Channels driven) into 8-Ohms; seven internal high-current WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) power amplifiers; frequency response - 20 Hz to 20 kHz ; THD rating of .05%.

9. Speaker Connections: There are dual banana-plug-compatible multi-way speaker binding posts for all main channels with color-coding for simplified wiring. The speaker connections are arranged in a well-spaced row along the bottom of the receiver's rear connection panel, rather than clustered together in a square area.

10. AM/FM/XM/Sirius Radio: The TX-SR875 has a standard AM/FM tuner, as well as built-in XM and Sirius Radio connectivity. Subscription and optional antenna are required for XM or Sirius Satellite Radio Service.

11. iPod Docking Capability: With the optional iPod dock, in conjunction with this receiver, you can incorporate iPOD listening.

12. Lip-Synch Adjustment: The incorporation of a Lip-Synch adjustment on the SR875 allows the user to compensate for audio/video time discrepancies that may be encountered from various sources.

13. Audyssey MultiEQ: By connecting the provided microphone to the SR875 and following the instructions outlined in the user manual, the Audyssey MultiEQ automatic speaker setup system uses a series of test tones to determine the proper speaker levels, based on how it reads the speaker placement in relation to the acoustical properties of your room. However, you can also manual adjustments after the automatic set up is completed in order to conform to your own listening tastes.

Hardware Used

Home Theater Receivers and Separates: the Outlaw Audio Model 950 Preamp/Surround Processor paired with a Butler Audio 5150 5-channel power amplifier, Yamaha HTR-5490 (6.1 Channels) , and an Onkyo TX-SR304 (5.1 Channels).

DVD players: OPPO Digital DV-981HD and DV-980H DVD/SACD/DVD-Audio Players and a Samsung DVD-931HD DVD Player.

Blu-ray Disc/HD-DVD Players: Toshiba HD-XA1 HD-DVD player, Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray Player, and LG BH100 Blu-ray/HD-DVD Combo player.

Loudspeaker - System #1: 2 Klipsch B-3s, Klipsch C-2 Center , 2 Polk R300s.

Loudspeaker - System #2: Klipsch Quintet III 5-channel speaker system.

Loudspeaker - System #3: 2 JBL Balboa 30's, JBL Balboa Center Channel, 2 JBL Venue Series 5-inch Monitor speakers.

Loudspeaker System #4: Infinity TSS 3-in-1 (L,C,R), two SAT-750 surrounds, and TSS-SUB750 Subwoofer (On review loan from Infinity) .

Powered Subwoofers used: Klipsch Synergy Sub10 - used with Systems 1 and 2. and Yamaha YST-SW205 - used with System 3.

TV/Monitors: A Westinghouse Digital LVM-37w3 1080p LCD Monitor, Syntax LT-32HV 32-inch LCD TV, and Samsung LN-R238W 23-inch LCD TV.

All Displays were calibrated using SpyderTV Software.

Audio/Video connections were made with Accell, Cobalt, and AR Interconnect cables.

16 Gauge Speaker Wire was used in all setups.

Level checks for speaker setups were done using a Radio Shack Sound Level Meter
