However, there additional connections on a Blu-ray disc player that include:
1. An HDMI output (and on some 3D Blu-ray disc players, there are two HDMI outputs), which is used to transfer both high definition video and digital audio to a Television or AV receiver that is equipped with an HDMI or DVI-HDCP input via an adapter.
2. On some Blu-ray Disc players, a set of 5.1 channel analog audio outputs is included. This output option transfers a decoded surround sound signal to AV receivers that have 5.1 direct analog inputs.
3. In addition to audio and video connections, almost all Blu-ray players now have Ethernet connections to allow direct firmware update downloads and for accessing web-enabled content.
Ethernet connections are now required on all new Blu-ray Disc players. Ethernet Connections are a great feature as direct firmware downloading is very practical, and wed-enabled content is being provided in conjunction with more disc titles, which require internet connectivity to access.
4. A final connection that is becoming more common is a USB port (sometimes two) that are used for accessing digital media content stored on USB flash drives, or for connection of additional memory or USB WiFi Adapters.
