Flat panel televisions are quickly becoming quite commonplace on store shelves and in consumers' homes. Although Plasma TVs seem to be be getting a lot of attention in this area, the LCD television is actually making a bigger impact with consumers. LCD TV - Blu-ray or DVD Player Combinations

The TV is everywhere in our households. Now, with the advent of new technologies, the TV has taken on a new identity in the form of the TV Combo. Although the TV combo concept has been with us for some time, the concept has evolved into an LCD form factor that include built-in DVD players. Such units are great for locations such as the office, dorm room, recreation room, kitchen, or bedroom. Check out my current favorites. These new hi-tech TV combos also make great gifts for holidays and other special occasions, including back-to-school.

Loudspeaker Systems

Choosing loudspeakers is the most difficult part of putting together a home theater system. Besides deciding on brand, price, and style, actually determining what loudspeakers sound the best can be very subjective, as we all have different degrees of hearing ability and personal taste as to what sounds good. To top things off, there are hundreds of good quality branded loudspeakers that can do the job. Check out some examples of my current favorites that you might want to consider.

Network Media Players and Media Streamers

As a result of increased convergence of the PC and Home Theater, a new type of product has emerged, referred to as the Network Media Player or Media Extender. These products allow access to PC media content or the streaming/downloading of audio, video, and still image content directly from the internet that can be played on your TV or home theater system. In addition to standalone devices, Media Player/Extender capability is also being built into other products, such as Blu-ray Disc players and even TVs. For a look at Media Player/Extender options that might work well with your home theater, check out my top picks.

Plasma Televisions

Plasma television is finally a viable, and affordable, alternative to those bulky tube and projection sets as prices are coming down and a variety of screen sizes are available. It may be that the idea hanging the TV on the wall and regaining all that wasted floor space definitely offers more pleasing aesthetics over staring at a "box". Check out some of my Plasma TV favorites.

Powered Subwoofers

The subwoofer has emerged as a critical component of the home theater system. Today's DVDs and Blu-ray Discs contain low frequency information that add a dose of "reality" to those explosions and other special effects, as well as revealing those lower musical tones. If you are considering adding a little punch to your system, consider my moderately-priced powered subwoofer picks.

Video Performance Evaluation Test Discs

You shelled out big bucks for that new HDTV, but how do you know if you are really getting the best performance from your purchase. Also, is that upscaling DVD player or Blu-ray Disc player really up to snuff? Will the addition of that expensive video scaler/processor really make a difference? With a good test DVD or Blu-ray test disc, even the average consumer can find out whether their HDTV, Blu-ray/DVD player, or video processor/scaler is delivering the performance that it claims to deliver.

Video Projectors - DLP
