In order to test the video upscaling performance of the OPPO Digital BDP-93, I used the standardized HQV DVD Benchmark Test Disc from Silicon Optix (IDT). The test disc has a series of test patterns and images that test how well a video processor in a Blu-ray Disc/DVD player, TV, or Home Theater Receiver can display a good quality image when face with a low resolution or poor quality source.

In this Step-by-Step gallery, the results of several of the tests listed in the list above are shown.

The following tests were conducted with an OPPO BDP-93 Blu-ray Disc Player using both HDMI outputs connected alternately to both a Sharp XV-17000 3D 1080p DLP video Projector (on review loan from Sharp) and a Westinghouse Digital LVM-37w3 1080p LCD Monitor. The OPPO Digital BDP-93 was set for 1080p output so that the test results reflected the video processing performance of the BDP-93. All tests were conducted using the BDP-93's factory default settings.

The test results shown in this gallery are taken from the BDP-93's HDMI 1 output, which utilizes the Marvell Kyoto-G2 Qdeo 88DE2750 processing chip, as measured by the Silicon Optix HQV DVD Benchmark Disc.

Screen shots in this gallery were obtained using a Sony DSC-R1 Digital Still Camera. Photos were taken at 10-Megapixel resolution and resized for posting in this gallery.
